Concert In The Square
Since living in the square, a ‘Concert in the Square’ in aid of blood cancer charity Leukaemia Research, has become a reality and will take place on 12th July in the beautiful Georgian St Peter's Church, Black Lion Lane, Hammersmith.
‘Concert in the Square’ has been the dream of organiser Alun Watkins for twelve years since his father Glanddu, died very suddenly from leukaemia, ironically 32 years to the day that his cousin Malcolm died of the same disease as an 18 year old. The concert is his way of honouring their memory and of helping Leukaemia Research to find a cure for this terrible disease.
The programme will be very much Welsh based headed by Cwmbach Male Voice Choir, one of the longest standing and best known choirs in Wales, and accompanied by tenor Marcel Scerri. International harpist Keziah Thomas will also perform as the choir sing a varied repertoire of both classical and modern music including several special arrangements for the night, mezzo sopranos Sophie Gopsill and Charlotte Shorthouse will also both solo, duet and accompany the choir in a range of works.
Alun’s father sang with Cwmbach Male Voice Choir and all of the performers are donating their services free of charge.
